Process Areas & Food Production Halls

Cleanliness is essential in any environment where food is processed or prepared, so suitable luminaires must be used. Luminaires must be easy to clean without crevices or large external catches where dust may settle. It is absolutely essential that luminaires are constructed so that no component can fall and cause contamination.

Some fats and oils in vapour form will attack polycarbonate so acrylic or toughened glass covers may be more suitable.

Please contact your local Sales Engineer or the technical helpline to discuss specific applications.

Illumination Levels

The requirements will vary depending upon the industry, but typical values are 200 - 300 lux in automated process areas, 300 - 500 lux where manual operations take place and 500 - 750 lux in inspection areas.

The CIBSE : SLL Lighting Guide 1 - Industrial Environment 2018 provides guidance for specific industries and processes, although many companies have their own engineering standards.
