Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital

Nuffield Health is the UK’s largest independent, charitable healthcare provider, employing over 18,000 people at sites across the country.

Thorlux delivered a fully integrated lighting solution at the Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital, combining high-efficiency LED luminaires with the intelligent Thorlux SmartScan lighting management system.

Thorlux administered the entire project with a dedicated Project Manager. The scheme was expertly designed, installed and commissioned by Thorlux to BS 5266-1:2025 standards, providing complete confidence in safety, performance, and long-term regulatory compliance. Over 1,150 SmartScan-controlled luminaires were supplied and installed.

SmartScan is a wireless, secure, web-based platform that gives complete visibility and control of the lighting estate. Site managers can monitor system performance, schedule emergency lighting tests, and gain valuable insights into space utilisation through occupancy profiling. Using a blend of ambient light sensing and presence detection, SmartScan-enabled luminaires automatically adjust illumination to provide light only when required — significantly reducing energy consumption without compromising comfort or safety.

It is anticipated that the new SmartScan lighting system at Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital will reduce lighting energy consumption by 88.35%, compared to the previous lighting scheme. This equates to an annual reduction in energy consumption of 144,173 kilowatt-hours.
